Ziedot.lv to stand trial in absentia in Russia for supporting Ukrainian defenders Azov

The Latvian charity organization Ziedot.lv will stand trial in absentia in Russia for supporting the Ukrainian defenders Azov, Latvian Television reports.

According to the organization’s representative Ilze Ošāne, Ziedot.lv has received a summons from a Russian court to appear at a hearing on the 18th of August. Ziedot.lv is accused of supporting Azov, which is considered a terrorist organization in Russia.

Ziedot.lv is consulting with lawyers, but does not plan to participate in the hearing.

As Ošāne pointed out, Russia’s accusations will not stop Latvian society from providing assistance to Ukraine.

In turn,

the Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemns such actions of Russia

and indicates that it is impossible for foreign citizens to hope for fair decisions from Russian courts.

LETA agency has already reported that the Rodniki court of the Ivanovo region of Russia has also received a request from the Russian Prosecutor General’s Office to recognize a bakery owned by Latvian and Ukrainian citizens as extremist and to confiscate half of the company Rižskij hļeb (Riga Bread), the web media Meduza reports, citing the newspaper Kommersant.

The claim was filed against Latvian citizen Normunds Bomis and Ukrainian citizen Tatyana Prikhodko, the Limbaži company SIA Lielezers owned by them, the Chernihiv and Kyiv companies Rižsskij hļib and Hļibnij hurman, as well as the charity organization Ziedot.lv.
