Kremlin: Putin ready for talks; won’t back down from goals

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Russian dictator Vladimir Putin was ready to sit down at the negotiating table, but Moscow still wanted to maintain its goals, Reuters reported.
Peskov noted that the world has become accustomed to US President Donald Trump’s sometimes harsh words, but stressed that Trump still talks about peace talks and seeking a settlement.
Peskov told state television that Putin has repeatedly stressed that he wants to bring the situation in Ukraine to a peaceful conclusion as soon as possible and pointed out that

it is a long-term process, it requires effort and it is not easy.

He added that Russia’s main goal is its goals, and they are clear.
Trump announced a tougher stance against Russia on the 14th of July, pledging to deliver a new shipment of weapons to Ukraine, including Patriot systems. The US president also gave Russia 50 days to agree to a ceasefire, threatening to impose additional sanctions on the aggressor.
