Musk announces the founding of a party

US billionaire Elon Musk has announced the launch of a new political party, following his loud departure from Donald Trump, Politico reports.

Musk, a longtime Republican who emerged as Trump’s right-hand man in the White House just months ago, has been toying with the idea of launching a new party for weeks to disrupt the current two-party system. First, after posting a poll on his platform X, Musk later announced that he was ready to launch an “America Party.” “By a factor of 2 to 1, you want a new political party and you shall have it! When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste & graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy. Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom,” the billionaire wrote.

Musk’s thoughts on a third party were sparked by his June spat with Trump over a new bill that the US president has called a “big, beautiful bill.” While Trump boasted on the 3rd of July about moving the bill forward, Musk began talking about the possible establishment of a third party that would reshape the political balance in America.

While Musk has no shortage of funds to use to support specific candidates, the path to establishing a new party is complicated enough – he has to navigate different state laws, voting permits and other obstacles. Now the billionaire needs to formulate a concrete plan.

Just two months ago, Musk promised to stop spending money on politics, saying he had done enough.

Meanwhile, as reported by Politico, Trump is reportedly upset about his former ally’s decision to start a new party, and has stated that Musk has “completely gone off the rails” and has become a “trainwreck” over the past five weeks. The US president wrote on his social network Truth Social: “He even wants to start a Third Political Party, despite the fact that they have never succeeded in the United States.”

Trump expanded on his idea and pointed out that the only thing third parties have achieved is chaos and disorder.
