Čudars nominated for Minister of Smart Administration and Regional Development

The party New Unity has nominated Member of Parliament and former Minister for Climate and Energy Raimonds Čudars (JV) for the position of Minister for Smart Administration and Regional Development, Prime Minister Evika Siliņa (JV) announced.

“I am nominating Raimonds Čudars, proposed by New Unity, for the position of Minister of Smart Administration and Regional Development,” Siliņa stated on X.

Chairman of the Union of Greens and Farmers (ZZS) Saeima faction, Harijs Rokpelnis, told LETA news agency that Čudars’ candidacy is viewed positively. He added that it is currently unknown whether ZZS faction members plan to hold a separate meeting with Čudars.

According to information from LETA’s archives, Čudars was born in 1974. In 1996, he earned a law degree from the University of Latvia. From 2002 to 2009, he worked as a practicing attorney.

In 2001, Čudars was elected to the Salaspils municipal council from the Latvian Farmers’ Union list, and in 2005, he was elected again from the New Era party list.

In 2009, he was elected to the Salaspils District Council from a joint list of the New Era party and the For Fatherland and Freedom alliance and became chairman of the district council.

Čudars was re-elected to the Salaspils council from the Unity party list in 2013, 2017, and 2021, and he served as council chairman from 2009 to 2022.

In December 2022, the Saeima approved the second government led by Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņš (JV), in which Čudars served as Minister for Climate and Energy.

As previously reported, former Minister for Smart Administration and Regional Development Inga Bērziņa (JV) resigned, taking political responsibility for issues during the municipal elections.
