Latest data from State Employment Agency: what’s changing in Latvia’s labour market right now?

At the end of May 2025, the registered unemployment rate in Latvia stood at 4.9% of the economically active population, which is a 0.2 percentage point decrease compared to the previous month, according to data published by the State Employment Agency (NVA).

As of the end of May, there were 43 111 registered unemployed individuals in the NVA database, which is 1 750 fewer than a month earlier, when the total stood at 44 861.

The lowest regional unemployment rate remained in the Riga region, where it was 3.7%, down by 0.1 percentage point from April. Meanwhile, the highest unemployment rate continued to be in the Latgale region, at 10.5%, though this also reflects a 0.4 percentage point decrease.

Meanwhile, unemployment rate in Kurzeme was 5.2%, down 0.4 percentage points from the previous month. In turn, in Zemgale was 4.7%, down 0.3 percentage points, while in Vidzeme it was 4.4%, down 0.2 percentage points.

At the end of 2024, the national registered unemployment rate was 5.3%.
