Over 16% of eligible voters in Latvia cast ballots during early municipal elections voting

During five days of early voting in Latvia’s municipal elections, a preliminary total of 16.1% of eligible voters have cast their ballots, according to data from the Central Election Commission (CEC).

In total, 221 949 voters, or 16.12% of the electorate, participated in early voting across the country.

The highest voter turnout was recorded in Riga, where 19.14% of eligible voters cast their ballots over the five-day period. This was followed by Vidzeme with 16.26%, Latgale with 14.42%, and Kurzeme with 13.52%. The lowest turnout was in Zemgale, where 13.57% of voters participated in early voting.

Early voting on Monday and Wednesday was marred by technical problems that affected the operation of essential systems and registries. No significant issues were reported on Tuesday and Thursday.

Saturday is the official election day.
