Easter heat records: temperatures may reach up to +28°C

Good Friday will bring summer-like, sunny weather. With light winds, fog and mist may form in some regions overnight and in the early morning, reducing visibility. During the night, temperatures will drop to between +8°C and +13°C, and in some places along the Gulf coast, to +5°C…+8°C. During the day, under clear skies, temperatures will sharply rise across much of the country to between +23°C and +28°C.

However, in the Gulf coastal areas of Kurzeme, as usual in such conditions, it will be cooler, according to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.

On Holy Saturday, some areas may see rain during the day, with locally heavy thunderstorms expected in the western regions. In the night and morning hours, fog will thicken in some areas. Winds will be light to moderate from the south, becoming gusty during storms. Nighttime temperatures will range between +11°C and +16°C, while daytime temperatures will reach +22°C to +27°C, and +18°C to +22°C in many coastal areas. In some windward coastal areas of Kurzeme, temperatures near the water will be significantly cooler than in the rest of the country.

The Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre notes that both Friday and Saturday are expected to be the warmest days of the week,

with national heat records for those specific dates likely to be broken. It is also possible that the national maximum April temperature record could be surpassed if temperatures reach 27.9°C. The heat record for April 18th dates back to 1959, when the temperature in Skrīveri reached +23.2°C. The national record for April 19th is +24.2°C, set in Liepāja in the year 2000.

Easter weather will be influenced by cyclonic activity. On Easter Sunday night and morning, rain is expected in many areas, although it will be brief, with some places also experiencing intense thunderstorms. On Easter Monday, rain is only expected in isolated regions. During the Easter period, southwesterly to southerly winds will occasionally become gusty. A colder air mass will gradually enter the country, with nighttime temperatures dropping to between +5°C and +10°C, and daytime temperatures reaching only +9°C to +16°C.

In the following days of the new week, skies will mostly be cloudy, with occasional rainfall expected mainly at the end of the week. Winds will shift to the north, bringing cooler weather. Daytime temperatures will not exceed +17°C, and during nighttime hours in the eastern regions, temperatures will hover around 0°C.

It is important to note that the UV index will reach moderate levels during midday hours—meteorologists advise taking precautions and avoiding prolonged exposure to direct sunlight.
