In the Baltic Sea, to the south from Sweden, two cargo ships have collided. A Danish ship has turned over apparently after hitting a British ship, Danish news portal TheLocal.dk reports.
In the night to Monday, December 13, two people went missing after two cargo ships collided in Baltic Sea waters south of Sweden in the early morning hours, the Swedish Maritime Administration has announced.
«Shortly after half past 3am, we received an alert through our sea and flight rescue central that two freight vessels have collided between Ystad and Bornholm,» Carl-Johan Linde, the head spokesperson of the Swedish Maritime Administration, said to AFP. The official added that a rescue operation was under way to find two people that fell into the cold sea water.

The unfortunate ships are Karin Høj, sailing under Danish flag, which is 55 metres long and 9 metres wide. It left Södertälje in Sweden on Saturday, December 11 and was on way to Nykøbing Falster in Denmark when it turned over. The other reportedly is the British-flagged ship Scot Carrier travelling from from Lithuania to Montrose in Scotland. It is larger, measuring 90 by 15 metres. Nine boats as well as a rescue helicopter were searching for the missing sailors in the cold water, the Swedish Maritime Administration stated, The Local.dk reports.
