New January record: air temperature in Rucava reaches +9.2° C

On Tuesday, the 28th of January, air temperature in the country reached its peak at 14:00: +9.2 C in Rucava, which is a new national heat record of the third ten-day period of January, according to data from the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.

The previous heat record of the 28th of January was +9.0° C in 1989, while the earliest record of the third decade of the month was +9.1° C on the 21st of January 1990. Both of these records were recorded in Kolka.

Ten observation stations beat the 28th January record up to twice a day, six stations also corrected the heat record of the third ten-day period of the month.

The national daily heat record has been beaten for the third day in a row.

On Monday evening air temperature rose to +8.1° C in Liepaja, correcting the country’s heat record of the 27th of January.

On the night of Sunday, a new 26th of January record was reached in Latvia – air temperature in Bauska, Dobele, Mersrags and Riga increased to +7.3° C.
