Chairman of the Supreme Court of Law of the Republic of Latvia Aigars Strupišs plans to run candidate for another term as the chairman of the court.
As he told journalists on Friday, the 17th of January, he is serious about running for another term because “there are processes that have to be completed” running at the Supreme Court now. This includes optimisation of procedures and the artificial intelligence project. It is also necessary to complete ongoing processes in the Council for the Judiciary, where Strupišs is in charge.
The law provides that the Chairman of the Supreme Court shall be approved by the Saeima for a term of five years from among the judges of the Supreme Court on the proposal of the Plenary Session of the Supreme Court. The same person may serve as Chairman of the Supreme Court for no more than two consecutive terms.
Strupišs’ term will end on the 15th of June.
