Latvian operational services are awaiting the upcoming Christmas holiday with concerns, as this is the season when Latvian residents will have six free days in a row, as mentioned the statement from services.
The biggest concern is alcohol abuse, which can also lead to road accidents and reckless situations that can put a person’s life at risk.
In order for this time to pass calmly and without tragic incidents, the State Police (VP), the State Fire and Rescue Service (VUGD) and the Emergency Medical Service (NMPD) invite residents to act responsibly and conscientiously, paying special attention to road safety, safe housing, as well as taking care of their health and that of their loved ones.
The police call on every motorist and pedestrian to be responsible and protect themselves and others from the consequences of reckless actions.
During the upcoming holiday holidays, the police will pay special attention to road traffic safety – police will carry out checks, emphasizing that drivers should not go behind the wheel while under influence from alcohol, as well as check seat belts use and whether passengers are transported safely.
Other people can play a decisive role in preventing disaster, so services urge residents to report cases when drivers attempt to get behind the wheel while drunk.
Weather conditions are volatile, and roads can ice over at a moment’s notice. This is why motorists should choose an appropriate and safe driving behaviour.
The majority of tragic fires that occur in homes can be prevented if people act carefully and follow fire safety instructions. This is why VUGD reminds residents of safe use of candles.
While taking care of their own health and the health of their loved ones, doctors recommend not consuming alcohol or consuming it in moderation, protecting children from burns and giving children appropriate toys.
During the long holiday, the Family Doctors’ Consultation hotline 6601 6001 will work around the clock. Doctors will listen to patient’s complaints, evaluate them and recommend actions, for example, what medications to take, etc. Also, on-call doctors and emergency medical services will be on stand-by.
