Strong wind and more snow expected in Latvia at the end of the week

Atmospheric pressure will gradually go down in the second half of the week. Weather conditions will be dictated by a cyclone. This means more intensive precipitation and stronger wind, as reported by Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.

The sky will be mostly cloudy. It will snow in most of the country on Thursday. The layer of snow will grow by 2-4 cm in central and eastern regions of the country.

On Friday, the 13th of December, it will snow only locally. Road traffic participants are urged to be cautious, as certain roads may become slippery.

Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre notes the wind will blow from the north-west and west. Wind speed may reach 15-18 m/sec along the coast on Thursday. Strong wind will remain until the end of the week!

Minimal air temperature will be -1° C… -5° C on Thursday. On the night to Friday, however, air temperature will drop to -5° C… -10° C in many parts of the country. On Thursday, air temperature will reach -1° C… +4° C, whereas on Friday it will reach only +1° C… -4° C.

Meteorologists say that weather will be volatile at the end of the week – precipitation will appear every now and then: mostly rain in western parts of the country, and snow in eastern parts of the country. A layer of snow will form only in eastern parts of the country. Air temperature will remain similar to the rest of the week. Next week will start off with similar weather conditions. However, warmer masses of air will flow to the country, causing air temperature in most of the country, except eastern parts, remaining positive at night and during the day.
