Scandalous Latvian ex-Prime Minister leaves Unity’s board; criticises party’s pension policy

Former Prime Minister of Latvia, Saeima deputy Krišjānis Kariņš has decided to step down from “Unity” political party’s board because he no longer supports this party’s policy.

He announced this decision on his account on “X” (formerly Twitter), where he wrote that “it is a severe mistake to lower future pension contributions and notably raise the tax for capital savers”.

This year Kariņš left politics after his scandal with private flights. In September he started working for strategic communication company “Kreab”. He now works as the company’s senior advisor, consulting the company’s clients about geopolitical, EU policy and other political topics.

LTV previously reported that Kariņš was one of the leading candidates for the post of NATO Secretary General. However, he dropped out from the race.
