Latvia gradually commences heating season

As the weather in the country remains chilly, Latvian municipalities are commencing the provision of heating services to households in the country.

Starting with Friday, the 4th of October, Rīgas namu pārvaldnieks (RNP) will commence providing heating services to households that are clients of the company, as LETA was told by RNP representative Inita Kabanova.

The plan is to connect all buildings within three days.

The start of the heating season in renovated buildings will commence later. This is because these building retain heat better, so the heating season in them is shorter and costs less to residents.

Within two weeks after connecting the heating, the stabilization works of the heating system will continue – the heating systems in which damage has occurred or which have been affected by the incorrectly and uncoordinated repairs of residents during the summer will be de-aerated and put in use.

RNP decides on the commencement of the heating season based on previously established criteria – air temperature does not climb higher than +14 C and drops to +8 C at some point. These weather conditions or colder weather conditions remain for three consecutive days.

Heating will be turned off automatically on warmer days.

RNP is 100% owned by Riga City Council. This company managed more than 3 800 residential homes and structures with a total area of more than 7.5 million m2. In 2023 the company operated with turnover of EUR 74.22 million and profits of EUR 5.05 million.

In Jēkabpils, kindergartens are the first to receive heating in the beginning of the heating season, as LETA was told by the local government.

Taking into account the cool and windy weather, the executive director of the municipality Uldis Skreivers has issued an order to start the heating season in the boiler houses of Jēkabpils municipality municipal institutions and capital companies to ensure the supply of thermal energy. Heating is first provided to all pre-school education institutions and then – other education institutions.
