At the beginning of the week weather in Latvia will be dictated by an active cyclone. Monday, the 29th of July, will be overcast. Clouds will bring lasting and heavy rain to many parts of the country. In central regions it will rain especially heavily. A thunderstorm is possible as well, as reported by Latvian State Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.
The wind will be moderately strong and will blow from the north-west and north, reaching a speed of 19-24 m/sec (up to 29 m/sec in the southern coast of the gulf). Meteorologists say that storms are very rare for Northern Europe.
In eastern regions of Latvia the wind will be calmer and will blow from the east. Air temperature at night will drop to +12° C… +17° C, whereas daytime air temperature will reach +17° C… +21° C.
Cyclone activity will go down on Tuesday. However, it’s presence will still be felt in most of the country. There will be less clouds. Nevertheless, rain is still expected in central and eastern regions. This includes heavy rain and thunderstorm. The wind will blow from the north and north-west and will reach a speed of 15-19 m/sec. Minimal air temperature at night will be at +16° C… +19° C. Daytime air temperature will reach +20° C… +22° C, as reported by meteorologists.
From mid-week onward the cyclone will move away and atmospheric pressure will increase slightly, causing the sky to clear up. It will still rain, but only in some areas. The wind will calm down and will blow from the west.
Current forecasts show that the first days of August will be moderately warm. At night, air temperature will be +12° C… +18° C, whereas daytime air temperature will not be higher than +24° C.
