Bauska in dire need of state aid after recent storm

Bauska will need aid from the Latvian state to recover after a recent storm, as reported by the municipality’s CEO Ivars Romānovs after an emergency meeting.

The meeting was also attended by a representative of the Ministry of Smart Administration and Regional Development. Discussions also touched the order in which information about losses and photographic evidence is to be submitted.

The total extent of the damages is currently unknown, as the information is still being compiled.

Work continues with insurance companies as well, because there the municipal buildings that were damaged in the storm were previously insured. This includes the roof of the local sports arena, which was ripped off by the storm and slammed into nearby private property.

Romānovs said he has met with private owners and has discussed with them possible aid.

There are dozens of buildings and real estate properties that were damaged one way or another in the storm.

Public services are working tirelessly to survey all local homes whose roofs were damaged in order to commence repairs as soon as possible and protect both the buildings and the people living in them from the rain.

Romānovs invited residents of Bauska to be responsive and help each other to clean up both their private properties and surrounding areas.

The municipality will make a priority clearing fallen trees and broken branches.

Nevertheless, the extent of damages is so high that it will not be possible to do this quickly. Residents’ assistance will be required to clean up areas.

Romānovs said no state of emergency is declared in Bauska.

Yesterday, there was a massive storm in Bauska. Significant damage was caused to green areas, felling trees, breaking branches and tearing off roofs of buildings.
