A motorist was caught by the police in Liepaja for drunk driving, as reported by State Police.
In the evening on the 1st of May, a police car on patrol on Flotes Street in Liepaja took notice of an Audi that was moving on O.Kalpaka Street very quickly and aggressively.
The police ordered the driver to pull over, but instead he ignored the police and increased the speed of his car in an attempt to flee.
The car exceeded the permitted driving speed, reaching 136 km/h. The driver also violated multiple road traffic restrictions.
The driver of the car carried out an overtaking on the railway crossing, crossed the tramway tracks in an inappropriate place, then overtook the vehicle in front of him and crossed the horizontal designation of the road “continuous line”.
The driver finally stopped on Rigas Street. There the police determined the man was heavily drunk – 2.29 per mille.
Police delivered the man, who acted aggressively, ignored lawful orders from the police and even attempted to attack police officers, to the police department. The man constantly cursed and ignored requests to cease his aggressive behaviour.
State police officers commenced administrative violation proceedings against the man. Criminal proceedings have been initiated for driving under the influence of alcoholic beverages.
