At the beginning of the year there were 8 700 Ukrainian citizens registered as employees in various companies in Latvia, as the Central Statistical Bureau of Latvia reports with reference to data from the State Revenue Service.
In most cases Ukrainian citizens work in industry – 22.8%, accommodation and catering – 13.3%, as well as in the trade, automobile and motorcycle repair sectors – 13%. At the same time, 11.1% are employed in financial, insurance, scientific, administrative services and real estate operations, while 9% work in construction.
The Central Statistical Bureau also notes that 38.7% of them work in simple professions, such as office and hotel cleaners, kitchen staff, shop assistants and other jobs. 16.1% of them are qualified workers and craftsmen. 14.8% are service and commerce workers. 12.7% are senior specialists and specialists. 0.9% are drivers and operators.
On the 1st of January 2024 there were 4 000 Ukrainian citizens with temporary protection status in Latvia registered in various education institutions in the country.
At the start of 2024 there were around 3 700 Ukrainian children registered in Latvian pre-school and general education institutions.
On the 3rd of June, the Central Statistical Bureau of Latvia will report on the annual population census data for the start of 2024 and population changes in 2023, as well as the number of Ukrainian citizens staying in Latvia.
At the start of 2023, according to the assessment from the Central Statistical Bureau of Latvia, 60% of Ukrainian citizens with residence registered in Latvia and with temporary protection status were living in this country.
