Unofficial information suggests that the vacant seat of the Latvian minister of foreign affairs could go to the country’s Minister of Justice Inese Lībiņa-Egnere, according to what LTV was told by multiple sources in New Unity political party.
Sources say that Lībiņa-Egnere has experience in foreign policy, which she gained when leading Latvia’s delegation in the European Council. She also knows several foreign languages.
According to LTV, if Lībiņa-Egnere is shuffled to this minister’s post, parliamentary secretary Lauma Paegļkalne or Saeima Legal Affairs Committee chairman Andrejs Judins could be moved to the seat of Minister of Justice.
It should be mentioned that there has still been no word of any official announcements of any candidates.
BNN previously reported that the seat of Latvian minister of foreign affairs will become vacant on the 10th of April, when Krišjānis Kariņš is set to leave it. The Saeima plans to decide on approving a new minister on the 11th of April.
