NBS: Russia has significantly reduced its military resources near Latvian border

Russia, trying to maintain its military force and speed in its full-scale invasion of Ukraine, has already significantly reduced its personnel resources and military presence close to the Latvian border. This means Russia does not have sufficient military force and resources to start a conventional attack on a NATO member state, as mentioned in a statement from Latvian National Armed Forces (NBS).
This is why NBS urges residents to be more critical towards publications from various sources about a possible increase of the threat level in Europe, Latvia included.
NBS also urge residents to not share such claims with other people, so as not to support Russian propaganda machine’s efforts to sow fear about a possible Russian invasion of Latvia or some other NATO member state.
NBS also note that Russia’s inability to secure victory and enormous losses of resources in the more than two years-long war in Ukraine demonstrate its systematic weakness and stagnation on all command levels. On top of that, if Russia attacked any member state, there have to be specific conditions met and a specific situation. This is why Latvian armed forces point out that there are no conditions for Russia’s aggression against a NATO member state.

NBS remind that for nearly 20 years Latvia has been a member of the world’s strongest military alliance.

An attack on Latvia would mean an attack on all member states, and this would result in an immediate reaction from NATO.
Lately in the public space there have been various opinions and populist speculation about Latvian army’s inability to the defend the country. This is why NBS urge residents to maintain a cool head and avoid participating in such rumours – especially from people who no longer serve in armed forces or have no ties to armed forces at all. By sharing opinions of dubious quality, these people intentionally or unintentionally serve Russia’s aggressive propaganda.
“We, soldiers and members of the National Guard, do not take peace for granted. Similarly to Estonia and Lithuania, as well as other NATO troops, every day we prepare for war to prevent it. This is our chosen calling and duty towards Latvia and responsibility to every resident of our country. Instead of parroting populist posts on social networks, we urge residents to contribute to national security by joining the National Guard, national defence service, or acquire military skills in a voluntary reservists course,” as mentioned in the statement from NBS.
