Trump’s rival Haley to end campaign, paving way for Trump-Biden re-match

Former US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley will suspend her presidential campaign on Wednesday, the 6th of March, according to a source familiar with her plans, ensuring that Donald Trump would win the Republican nomination and face Democratic President Joe Biden again in the November elections, reports Reuters.
According to the source, Haley will give a speech on Wednesday on her future involvement in the elections. Although she will not endorse Trump during the speech, she will challenge Trump to try to win the support of her supporters who include a significant number of moderate Republican and independent voters, the source added.

Haley’s decision to suspend her campaign comes a day after the Super Tuesday primaries,

when Trump overwhelmingly defeated her in 14 out of 15 states.
Haley lasted longer than any other Republican contender, but did not pose a serious threat to Trump, who despite several criminal charges is still firmly holding on to the party’s lead.
She won only two states in the primaries – the Republican primaries in Washington on the 3rd of March and her only victory on Tuesday in Vermont, a small, deeply Democratic state.
The elections hold the potential to be very controversial in a country already torn by political polarisation. Biden has called Trump an existential threat to democratic principles, while Trump has sought to reiterate his false claims that he won in 2020.
