Poland plans to launch military satellites in 2025

Poland is preparing to launch several military surveillance satellites in 2025, Deputy Defence Minister Cezary Tomczyk said at a press briefing on Thursday, the 29th of February, outlining efforts by the Ministry of Defence and the Polish army to put the first Polish satellites into orbit as early as next year, reports Reuters.
Poland plans to buy a satellite system equipped with radar and optical technology that would allow it to observe the Earth regardless of atmospheric conditions and would use both foreign and domestic technology, he said.
Defence Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz said at the same briefing that in the light of Ukraine’s experience since the Russian invasion, Poland would set up a space force this year in addition to other units.
“Everything we are implementing this year – the creation of drone forces, space element forces and medical forces, are measures which strengthen the Polish army and which also stem from the Ukrainian experience,” Kosiniak-Kamysz said.
In December 2022, the Ministry of Defence signed a contract with Airbus for the purchase of two reconnaissance satellites, which are expected to be launched in 2027.
