Ex-NA member joins “Nation. Land. Country” party’s candidate list for EP elections

Former National Alliance member Aleksandrs Kiršteins decided to found his own political organisation – Latvia’s Independent Movement. He will also run in European Parliament elections together with political party “Nation. Land. Country”.
Kiršteins told LETA he will be the leading candidate.
He describes participation in EP elections as “training”, because there will be many new people on the list with no prior experience of working in the Saeima. According to Kiršteins, he is prepared to “teach them” and share his knowledge in order to completely replace the entire system in the 2026 Saeima elections. At the same time, Kiršteins has no plans to run in Saeima elections.

The politician said that 35 years have passed after the first congress of the Latvian National Independence Movement (LNNK) and the invitation voiced during that congress to approach the pre-war demographic structure and increase the proportion of Latvians to 70% remains a dream. Kiršteins believes none of Latvia’s problems can be resolved with parties who have 10-15 representatives in the Saeima. This is why he says Latvia needs a movement “that is something more than people”.
“Latvians still live in non-liquidated consequences of the Soviet occupation and feel unprotected on their own land. In large cities the majority of law enforcement workers are non-Latvians, and the National Guard had their peace-keeping right removed. Now they can’t do it without permission from the police. The court justice system still hasn’t cleansed itself of former KGB agents and anti-Soviet activist police,” claims Kiršteins.
The politician proposes “starting open discussions and looking for causes” of the increasing alienation of state power and society, which is the main reason why Latvia lags behind its neighbours.
Kiršteins believes that by voting in favour of joining the European Union, no one could imagine “the current widespread restriction of freedom of expression, exaggerated political correctness, the opening of borders to representatives of foreign civilizations and the unrestricted sale of their natural wealth to foreigners”.
Information from Lursoft indicates that the Latvian Independence Movement was founded by Kiršteins and Edvards Krusts. The latter is also a member of the executive body of the Society “Conservative Thought Conference”.
