Union of Greens and Farmers expand their list of candidates for EP elections

Latvian Minister of Welfare Uldis Augulis and Minister of Agriculture Armands Krauze will run in European Parliament elections as candidates of the Union of Greens and Farmers (ZZS).
As reported by ZZS representative Dace Kārkliņa, on Friday, the 2nd of February, the leader of ZZS’ Saeima faction Harijs Rokpelnis will submit the party’s list of candidates for the upcoming EP elections.
The list approved by ZZS board includes 18 candidates from various member parties – Latvian Union of Farmers and Latvian Social Democratic Workers Party, as well as partner party Honour to Serve Riga.
ZZS candidates for European Parliament elections include Rokpelnis, chairman of Latvian Social Democratic Workers Party Jānis Dinevičs, Chairman of Saeima’s Social and Employment Matters Committee Andris Bērziņš, Honour to Serve Riga board member Diāna Novicka, Associate Professor of Political Science of the University of Latvia Inese Āboliņa, Ministry of Economy parliamentary secretary Jurģis Miezainis, ZZS board member Krists Bergans-Berģis and Minister of Welfare Uldis Augulus.
Other candidates from the Union of Greens and Farmers include Saeima deputy Līga Kļaviņa, former Latvian ambassador Mārtiņš Perts, Ministry of Welfare parliamentary secretary Reinis Uzulnieks, Minister of Agriculture Armands Krauze, businesswoman Anna Poindere, President of Latvian Hotel and Restaurant Association Andris Kalniņš, Latvian Farmers’ Union (LZS) Youth Department head Renārs Šķesters-Kambals, public relations specialist Līva Brazovska, Rail Baltic central station project manager Anita Rūdule-Jansone and LZS secretary general Artūrs Graudiņš.
The ZZS programme for the European Parliament elections emphasizes the need to ensure the representation of the interests of every Latvian citizen in Europe. Security and stability in the European Union, which is required by the current geopolitical situation, are raised as another important issue. Equally important is the representation of farmers’ interests in Europe, sustainable development by mitigating the effects of climate change, social justice and human rights advocacy, innovation and education, as confirmed by the party.
