France proposes bonus of up to 1 900 euros for police officers during the Olympic Games

The French Interior Minister made an offer to police officers on Tuesday the 30th of January, offering bonuses of up to 1 900 euros to motivate them to work during the 2024 Paris Olympics. The proposal is aimed at addressing concerns about ensuring sufficient numbers of police officers during the Olympics, which coincide with France’s biggest holiday season from the 26th of July to the 11th of August, reports Reuters.
Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin assured police officers on X that they would be given the necessary funds to guarantee fair pay for their efforts during the 2024 Paris Olympics,

in addition to funding for social support measures.

Police unions have criticised the government for not properly recognising what police officers will sacrifice to work during the 2024 Paris Olympics, such as cancelling holiday plans and providing extra childcare.
The heightened security alert and tensions linked to the conflict in Gaza have also escalated the situation among police officers, leading some to stage protests.
According to Reuters, police officers who agree to take a shorter annual leave during the Olympic Games will receive a bonus of 1 000 euros, which may increase to 1 600 euros for police officers who will be stationed near the Olympic venues.
Additional bonuses of 300 euros will be paid to police officers working in Paris, at border checkpoints and at airports.
Darmanin has said he wanted police officers to be “100% mobilised” during the Olympics, but he has decided to give each police officer at least ten days’ leave between June and September.
