In the Caucasus region, a flare-up in fighting on the Armenia-Azerbaijan border has been reported by the neighbouring countries in another episode of the decades-long conflict. Baku and Yerevan have reported dozens of fallen or missing soldiers and a swift ceasefire, US broadcaster Radio Free Europe reports.
Armenian defence officials stated on Wednesday, November 17, that tens of Armenian soldiers have been captured or gone missing following the latest clashes on the border with Azerbaijan. Armenian Defence Ministry noted also that 13 Armenian soldiers were captured by Azerbaijani forces and another 24 Armenian servicemen have gone missing and that their fate remains unknown. The announcement unveiled that one Armenian soldier was killed in the fighting, which, according to Yerevan, has been ceased after following talks with Russia.

In Baku, the Defence Ministry of Azerbaijan announced on November 17 that seven of its soldiers were killed and ten others wounded in renewed fighting on the shared border that erupted on November 16.
The long-conflicting neighbours accused each other for provoking the latest conflict during tensions between the two Caucasus countries that have continued since a six-week war in 2020 over the ethnically Armenian region of Nagorno-Karabakh, Radio Free Europe reports.
