Week to start off with thaw and sloppy snow in Latvia

On Monday, the 22nd of January, the sky will be cloudy during the day and a night. Some precipitation will come at night. During the day, however, a wide precipitation zone will pass through Latvia from the west – snow and wet snow is expected in most of the country, as well as rain in western parts, as reported by Latvian State Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.
Freezing rain is expected in eastern and central regions of Latvia. Roads will become especially slippery! The wind will blow from the south and south-west, reaching a speed of 15-19 m/sec in the entire country (20-22 m/sec along the coast). At night air temperature will drop to +4° C… -4° C (-5° C… -7° C in eastern areas), whereas daytime air temperature will reach -2° C… +4° C.

In the following days weather conditions will be similar, as they will be dictated by multiple cyclones –

the sun will shine between the clouds every now and then. Some precipitation and stronger wind is also expected. The wind will be especially strong along the coast. With slightly warmer masses of air flowing to the country, precipitation will consist mostly of rain and wet snow. Nevertheless, it will also snow properly in some areas. Meteorologists say precipitation will be the strongest on Wednesday. Both at night and during the day maximum and minimal air temperature will remain similar: air temperature will stay at 0° C… +5° C. It may be a couple of degrees colder in eastern regions of Latvia.
According to current forecasts, atmospheric pressure will go up at the end of the week and weather will become more pleasant – precipitation will calm down and the wind will become slower. Air temperature will go below 0° C in most of the country.
