Former Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Māris Kučinskis may be one of the candidates from the Combined List (AP) political party for the upcoming European Parliament elections, as confirmed by the man himself.
When asked about unofficially reported information that suggests he may be a candidate from AP’s list, Saeima deputy Kučinskis said he has agreed to run in EP elections, adding that the final decision is for the board of AP to make.
The Ex-PM said AP is confident “all parties should band together because of the unstable foreign policy situation”. He said this in context to the Russian-Ukrainian war, stressing that it will be necessary to keep defending Ukraine for much longer.
Kučinskis also mentioned that Latvia has been reinforcing its eastern border mostly on its own in recent months. He said it is necessary to make it clear that it is EU’s external border, which should receive greater support from the EU.
The former minister also said it is necessary to work hard on reducing illegal immigration.
Europe has its eyes open now – that when it comes to illegal migration, it’s not about refugees running from a war, and that it is highly necessary to work on reducing security risks, said the politician.
