On Wednesday, the 17th of January, the Chairman of the NATO Military Committee, Rob Bauer, said that Member States should be on high alert and prepared for unforeseen challenges. He called for a transformation of NATO, with an emphasis on the importance of public-private cooperation, reports Politico.
The chairman of NATO’s military committee called on allies to prioritise efficiency and improve defence preparedness through more exercises, industry partnerships and increased troop readiness.
He stressed the need to change mindsets
from a planned and controlled approach to waiting for the unexpected in the current unpredictable era.
Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, NATO countries have significantly increased defence spending and signed major contracts with arms manufacturers. But production increases have been delayed.
Bauer has previously pointed to the need for standardisation, particularly in heavy ammunition, to facilitate cooperation between countries and streamline the delivery of shipments to Ukraine for use in different weapon systems.
The Chairman of the NATO Military Committee stressed the need to take additional steps in military preparedness in the field of collective defence, as the Ukraine war is, in his view, a decisive conflict that will determine the fate of the world.
“The tectonic plates of power are shifting, and as a result we face the most dangerous world in decades,” Politico reports citing Bauer.
