A clear “no” to Zhdanok-type policy, Latvian ex-president encourages residents to vote in EP elections

Former Latvian President Valdis Zatlers urges all Latvian citizens to vote in European Parliament elections this summer, because, according to him, this time this will also mean deciding on support for Ukraine.
“This time people will have a good range of choice, because all parties have selected various strong candidates,” Zatlers said in an interview to TV3 programme 900 seconds.
“It’s important for everyone to vote. Then there will be support for Ukraine and a clear “no” to Zhdanok-type policy,” he stressed.
As for the government, Zatlers expects a clear economic policy plan, because so far the government has missed two of its own declared priorities at a rapid pace, leaving a small emptiness.
As for House of Moscow recently taken over by the Latvian state, Zatlers said

this building “has a bad aura”, so authorities should think very hard how to use it.

He stressed in his interview to TV3 that the House of Moscow was a platform for Russian propaganda. This building has “a bad aura”. This is why Zatlers believes various cultural organisations will be able to operate from it. In this case the state should be very careful about selling the building to avoid a situation when the building could end up in the hands of people with ties to Russia.
“It’s difficult to decide what to do next – this topic should be assessed without any rush,” said Zatlers, inviting residents to not be afraid of Russia’s response, because it does not have any other real estate in Latvia except for the embassy.
As for Latvian businessmen that continue earning money in Russia, Zatlers said Latvia should not stimulate such activities.
