In Vienna, the vaccination of 5-to-11-year-olds against Covid-19 has begun despite the EU European Medicines Agency still assessing the safety of a Covid-19 vaccine in this age group. Meanwhile, a lockdown for the unvaccinated has been introduced in the EU country, Euronews and The Guardian report.
People in this age group in Vienna, Austria are able to receive a dose of a Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine from Monday, November 15. An estimated 200 children will be able to receive a Covid-19 vaccine per day, a «low number» due to the medical consultations they plan to have with parents, according to a press release of the Vienna local government.

The Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine has not yet been approved by the European Medicines Agency for children between the ages of 5 and 11, but the body is looking into it and plans to give its statement in December. The US, however, has authorised the vaccine for the age group, Euronews reports.
After a record surge in new Covid-19 infections, Austria has introduced a lockdown on the unvaccinated part of its population, which is about two million people. The epidemiological restrictions entered into force on Monday, November 15, The Guardian reports.
