On Friday, the 5th of January, the sky in Latvia will be mostly cloudy. There will be moments of snowfall. At night, precipitation will be observed in most the country. At night and during the day a yellow warning will be in effect due to heavy snowfall in the country’s eastern parts and north of Kurzeme, as reported by Latvian State Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.
Roads will be slippery and visibility will be poor during snowing. Motorists are urged to be careful!The wind will blow from the east and north-east. Air temperature will remain low: at night it will fall to -9° C… -14° C in the west all the way to -20° C… -22° C in Latvia’s north-east. It will be a couple of degrees warmer during the day.
On the weekend the sky will become clear more often. Precipitation will calm down – on Sunday, the 7th of January, meteorologists predict mostly dry weather. With slow wind speed, frost will remain. Air temperature in central and eastern regions will go down even more – at times air temperature will come close to -30° C.
In the second half of the second week of January, however, warmer masses of air will flow to the country. Air temperature will go up. The snow will melt and no intensive precipitation is expected. The warms will not last, however, as air temperature will go down again in the second half of the week.
