Over the course of the week a cold mass of air will be present above Latvia. This will cause air temperature to fall stably below 0° C. Wind speed will go up in the first half of the week. There will be little precipitation in all of Latvia, as reported by the State Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.
In the first half of the first week of 2024 weather will start off partially cloudy. There will be moments of clear sky as well. No significant precipitation is expected for Tuesday and Wednesday. Starting from the middle of the week, however, the layer of snow in southern parts of Latvia will grow by 2 cm or so. The wind will be slow to moderate and will be strong. Meteorologists say wind speed may be strong along the coast.
Air temperature will gradually start going down in all of Latvia. At night and during the day air temperature in western parts of Latvia will stay at around -7° C… -12° C (-12° C… -17° C in eastern parts of the country). From the middle of the week, air temperature at night in north-eastern parts of the country may drop as far as -20° C… -23° C.
Weather conditions will remain similar at the end of the week – air temperature will be stable and low, there won’t be a lot of precipitation, and the wind will gradually calm down.
Meteorologists say that the thaw at the end of 2023 caused problems for the hydrological situation on various rivers in Latvia. Areas near rivers were flooded. Water levels have since stabilised, however.
