The matter of wages will be one of our priorities next year, said Chief of Latvian State Fire and Rescue Service (VUGD) Mārtiņš Baltmanis in an interview to LTV programme Rīta panorāma.
“Wages will be one of our priorities next year and I hope very much we will have some clarity at the start of the year,” he said.
He also said that he plans to do all he can to hire on more people and retain existing employees.
LETA previously reported that a signature collection campaign has launched on Manabalss.lv platform to ensure equal bonuses for rescuers of the State Fire and Rescue Service (VUGD).
The initiative posted on Manabalss.lv mentions that in 2022 there were 10 161 rescue efforts organised, which is 12.76% more when compared to 2021, when 9 011 rescue efforts were organised. The number of rescue efforts has a tendency to go up – in the last three years the average number of rescue requests in Latvia has gone up by 12%. At the same time, the number of vacant jobs in VUGD exceeds 12%.
