Former Latvian PM Krišjānis Kariņš’ predecessors Valdis Dombrovskis and Ivars Godmanis had used special flights during their respective terms. However, the money for them did not come from the State Chancellery.
According to information provided to LETA by State Chancellery representative Santa Jirgensone, Dombrovskis used special flights five times during his term as prime minister, and Godmanis used such flights three times.
Dombrovskis used special flights three times to travel to meeting of the Council of Europe in Brussels. In December 2011 such a flight cost EUR 20 588, in July 2012 it cost EUR 32 107, and in November 2012 it cost EUR 26 412. These flights were paid from the EU budget.
Latvian prime ministers also used special flights in 2008 and 2009. In 2008, then the Latvian prime minister Godmanis used special flights three times to travel to meetings of the Council of Europe. Dombrovskis, on the other hand, used special flights twice in 2009 to attend meetings of the Council of Europe. These flights were not organised by the State Chancellery. This is why the institution was unable to present flight-related costs.
Latvia’s Prime Minister Evika Siliņa used a special flight when returning from her visit to Brussels on the 27th of October.
This flight cost EUR 26 756. The money was provided by the EU budget.
