Former US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo will join the board of directors of Kyivstar, a Ukrainian telecoms company part-owned by Petr Aven, who is under international sanctions, as an independent director, Bloomberg reports.
Mr. Pompeo will serve on Kyivstar’s board of directors as a partner at Impact Investments, a recently established US-based strategic and financial advisory and investment firm.
Impact Investments is tasked with advising and supporting the management of Kyivstar, as well as its parent company Veon, in strategically important areas of activity in Ukraine.
Mike Pompeo: “I am delighted to help Kyivstar and the Veon team to bring modern digital services in health, education, business growth and entertainment to the people of Ukraine. It is private entrepreneurship and investment that will help Ukraine grow and develop. I therefore hope that I will also be able to make a valuable contribution to this laudable endeavour.”
Veon is a mobile operator listed on the Amsterdam Stock Exchange (VON.AS) and is 100% owner of the Ukrainian telecommunications company Kyivstar.
Mr. Pompeo served as the 70th US Secretary of State from 2018 to 2021 and the sixth Director of the Central Intelligence Agency from 2017 to 2018. Previously, Mr. Pompeo represented the State of Kansas in the US House of Representatives from 2011 to 2017. He is a graduate of the US Military Academy at West Point and Harvard Law School.
