Drunk drivers will be required to undergo behaviour correction to be allowed to drive again

Latvian Ministry of Transport reports on Tuesday, the 14th of November, the government approved the ministry’s prepared regulations on the implementation of a program for correcting the behaviour of a person punished for driving a vehicle under the influence of intoxicants.
Regulations provide for the introduction of a new service that will provide motorists who were punished for driving while under the influence of intoxicants to undergo behaviour correction courses.
Motorists will have the option to recover their driver’s licence only if they participate in behaviour correction programme’s group sessions. Information about the courses attended will be entered in the national register of vehicles and their drivers.
Attendance of these courses will be mandatory.

Punished drivers will have to pay for courses from their own pocket.

The size of the fee – depending on demand for activities – will be set by the service provider. The approved regulations also stipulate the procedure, content and duration correctional programme. It also sets the principles for selecting behavioural adjustment programme implementers and the criteria that course providers must meet.
