State Border Guard Chief says Latvian residents actively report suspicious individuals

Latvian residents actively report suspicious individuals along the border, as confirmed by Chief of the State Border Guard (VRS) Gen. Guntis Pujāts.
He said border guards have received “a great deal of information” from local residents, forestry workers and hunters. This is enough to confirm people understand the significance of the problem of illegal immigration.
According to the chief of the State Border Guard, in cooperation with local residents it was possible to detain hundreds of illegal border perpetrators, and residents are rewarded with certificates for their efforts.

Pujāts stressed that providing assistance to the State Border Guard is the duty of every Latvian resident.

The State Border Guard urge residents to be vigilant and to report suspicious persons or groups of people of ethnicity not typical for Latvia to authorities.
Residents are asked to contact the State Border Guard using the information line 67 075 616.
