On Monday, the 18th of September, the UN International Court of Justice in the Hague began hearings of Ukraine’s complaint against Russia. Kyiv submitted the complaint to the court of justice shortly after the start of the Russian invasion last year.
In its complaint, Kyiv demands Moscow to be brought to justice for distorting the term “genocide” to justify its attack on Ukraine.
Russia claims it had started the invasion “to prevent genocide” in eastern territories of Ukraine, adding that the UN International Court of Justice has not jurisdiction in this case.
32 countries, Latvia included, are in Ukraine’s camp in this hearing.
Russia commenced its invasion of Ukraine on the 24th of February 2022.
