The Progressive Party (PRO) wants for the next government declaration to be focused and contain specific tasks, measurable results and a unified vision where the country should go, as LETA was told by the party’s Saeima faction leader Kaspars Briškens.
According to Briškens, previously ministries considered themselves as “isolated farms”, aiming to prevent interference from political competitors. Because of this, the party wants to agree with political partners on a list of tasks, as well as on a united government position.
Progressive Party’s priorities will include creating a competitive and sustainable economy. This includes a more active industrial policy, promotion of climate resilience, innovations and development of the labour market.
Progressive Party also plans to focus on human rights. According to Briškens, this is to make society feel safe and take care of each other so that society becomes more cohesive and inclusive.
At the same time, Progressive Party has agreed with New Unity (JV) and Union of Greens and Farmers (ZZS) to make Latvia a modern, European country, said Briškens.
As previously reported, on Monday, the 4th of September, JV, ZZS and PRO composed a new coalition under prime minister candidate Evika Siliņa. The new coalition also started working on the new government’s declaration.
Representatives of the new coalition also started working on the coalition agreement and additions regarding immediate tasks to be completed by December and January.
The new coalition will have 52 votes in the Saeima.
