On Wednesday, the 6th of September, the political party Honour to Serve Riga (GKR) will convene to decide on cooperation with the Union of Greens and Farmers (ZZS), as confirmed by GKR representatives.
Last week Saeima deputy Oļegs Burovs told LTV programme Rīta panorāma that
the party had discussions with a different party with which GKR plans to run together in the Riga City Council elections in 2025.
Burovs said cooperation between these two parties could affect his future in the parliament. “It should be logical – if we decide to cooperate with party X in 2025, it is unlikely we will be able to cooperate with party Z and party Y until 2025,” he added.
When asked about rumours that Burovs could be one of the deputies that will support the new government, the politician said rumours about him potentially becoming the 53rd vote in the new coalition in the Saeima have been going on for two months.
“Looking at this seriously, however, I haven’t spoken with any party about what I should to in the vote,” explained Burovs, adding that there is no need for him to think about joining any party, because he has been a member of GKR for eleven years.
Burovs told Rīta panorāma about the planned cooperation with party X [ZZS] that it will not be a merge, rather a “joint start in Riga City Council elections”.
As for cardinal changes in the coalition, Burovs said that “after multiple laps the government will end up led by two parties – Progressive Party and ZZS”. Burovs also said he disagrees with National Alliance leader Raivis Dzintars’ public statement – “even if there are more parties, it does not mean it will be easier to implement reforms”.
