On Wednesday, the 30th of August, according to officials, at least two people were killed and two injured in a “massive” Russian missile and drone strike on the Ukrainian capital Kyiv, with debris from destroyed air defence targets falling on several buildings in the city, reports Reuters.
In a post on Telegram, Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that two individuals were discovered deceased in a non-residential building, and one person sustained injuries due to shattered glass. He further mentioned that debris from destroyed drones and missiles fell across four locations within the capital.
Serhiy Popko, who heads the city’s military administration, on Telegram said that
Kiev had not witnessed an assault of such magnitude since the spring.
He explained that initially multiple drone groups initiated attacks on Kyiv from different directions. Subsequently, Russia launched missiles from Tu-95 strategic aircrafts. Popko stated:
“In total, over 20 enemy targets were neutralized by the air defence forces.”
The Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, General Valerii Zaluzhnyi, has announced that on the night of Wednesday, the 30th of August, Ukrainian air defences shot down all 28 Russian missiles and 15 of the 16 drones fired during the night.
