According to Russian officials, a Ukrainian drone reportedly carried out an attack on a building in Moscow on Friday, the 18th of August, at 4:00 AM, as stated by BBC.
The debris of the drone, shot down by air defences, fell on the city’s Expo centre, the city’s mayor, Sergei Sobyanin, have reported. Unverified videos shared on social media depict dense, gray smoke billowing over Moscow. There has been no response from Ukraine regarding this matter.
The Russian defence ministry have said on Telegram that the attack took place at around 4:00 am local time.
As per BBC report, the defence ministry said that after activating the city’s air defence systems, the drone “changed its trajectory” and crashed into a building on Krasnopresnenskaya Embankment, where several government buildings are located. Initially, it was reported that there were no casualties.
The statement from the Russian Ministry of Defence says that
the debris from the drone did not cause the fire and Sobyanin said the drone did not cause “significant damage” to the building.
According to Russia’s state news agency Tass, there was a report by emergency service of partial external wall collapse. The damaged area is said to be around 30 square metres.
The Expo Centre, situated less than 5 km from the Kremlin, serves as a spacious venue for exhibitions, conferences, and congresses.
