On Wednesday, the 16th of August, at the New Unity’s (JV) general assembly and council meeting it was decided to nominate Welfare Minister Evika Silina (JV) as the New Unity’s candidate for the position of Prime Minister.
Also New Unity’s Saeima faction supported Silina’s candidacy as Prime Minister.
The newly nominated head of the government was elected to the 14th Saeima from the New Unity (JV).
In Vidzeme region, Silina got the third best result of the New Unity (JV) candidates, with 4 509 pluses and 2 154 deletions.
The New Unity’s candidate for Prime Minister Evika Silina (JV) was born in 1975. She studied at the University of Latvia, obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in Law and qualification as a lawyer, and at the Riga Graduate School of Law, obtaining a Master’s degree in Social Sciences, Law and International Law and European Law.
As reported earlier by BNN, on Monday, the 14th of August 2023, Prime Minister Krisjanis Karins (New Unity) announced his resignation as Prime Minister and stated that he will not stand for re-election. On Thursday, the 17th of August, he will present a formal resignation letter to the President of Latvia, Edgars Rinkevics.
