Aseradens: The New Government must be formed by September 15

Finance Minister Arvils Aseradens (New Unity) on Tuesday, the 15th of August, after a government meeting in a press conference told that political parties must form a new government by the 15th of September to be able to submit next year’s budget to Parliament on time.
Until the 15th of October the Government must submit the 2024 budget to the Saeima, giving the parties time to form the next government.

In Aseradens opinion, this is a “quite realistic” deadline, as the parties have spent the whole summer in political discussions on the work that needs to be done.

It has been talked through and there should not be any major setbacks. Once the outlines of the coalition are clear, the drafting of the declaration should go quite smoothly, said the finance minister.

According to Aseradens, on Thursday, the 17th of August, when Prime Minister Krisjanis Karins (New Unity) submits his letter of resignation,

the initiative will be handed over to President Edgars Rinkevics, and it will then depend on the President how he will organise the process.
