Shortly before 12:00 local time the storm cause significant damages in Dobele County, according to posts from residents on social networks.
Large hail struck Naudie village, in Kronauce the storm felled many trees. Damages to buildings also reported – ripped off roofs and broken windows.
The biggest damages to power lines in Dobele are reported in the area between Dobele and the Lithuanian border.
The thunderstorm moved in the north and north-western direction, reaching Tukums and Talsi.
Around afternoon reports came in from Tukums about large-sized hail.
Meteorologists warn that many areas in Latvia will likely experience thunderstorms in the evening and the night to Tuesday. Serious risks for property and people’s lives remain. Heavy rain can also cause flooding. There is also a possibility of large hail and even local tornados.
Latvian State Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre has declared red level warning in the country’s western and central regions. Meteorologists warn about very dangerous thunderstorms, strong wind, large hail and intensive rain showers. The warning will remain in force until 19:00 p.m. local time.
