Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņš will come with an announcement on the ruling coalition’s expansion process, said Minister of Finance Arvils Ašeradens in an interview to Latvijas Radio.
He said last week Kariņš evaluated and compiled results of all political negotiations and “this week we can expect the PM’s announcement on the way forward”.
The minister added that the situation on the coalition’s expansion should become clear by the 15th of August.
When asked what he sees as the government’s future tasks, Ašeradens said he leaves this topic in the hands of the PM.
He also said Unity’s congress will take place on the 30th of September. The agenda of this meeting is not know as of yet.
As previously reported, in July the PM said the situation with the coalition is sure to become clear by the second half of August.
As previously reported, following PM Krišjānis Kariņš’s initiative, shortly after the State President’s elections, parties initiated discussions about important national topics. The PM’s objective is creating the widest possible coalition.
Discussions were attended by New Unity, Union of Greens and Farmers and Progressive Party. The Combined List and National Alliance boycotted these discussions because neither party want the existing coalition – New Unity, Combined List and National Alliance – to expand.
