On Tuesday, the 3rd of August, the Islamic State terrorist organisation announced the organisation’s leader Abu al-Hussein al-Husseini al-Qurashi was killed in an armed clash in the north-west parts of Syria.
He was killed in a clash with Jihadist group Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham, as the Islamic State announced in an audio recording posted on its Telegram account.
There was no mention of time of death of the terrorist organisation’s leader.
It was also announced the Islamic State now has a fifth leader – Abu al-Hasan al-Hashimi al-Qurashi.
The previous leader’s death was announced by the terrorist organisation in November 2022.
His predecessor was killed in a US operation in Idlib Province in February 2022.
The first “Caliph” Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi was killed in October 2019. He too was killed in Idlib.
In 2014 the Islamic State rapidly took wide territories in Syria and Iraq to establish a caliphate there, committing countless atrocities in the process.
In 2017 the Islamic State was defeated in Iraq and two years after that in Syria. However, there are still sleeper cells that emerge every now and then in both countries.
The Islamic State also accepted responsibility for acts of terror in Europe as well.
