Latvian Trade Union of Education and Science Employees (LIZDA) prepares to request an evaluation of responsibility of certain high-ranking officials of the Ministry of Education and Science (IZM) for misleading the management of the ministry.
LIZDA manager Inga Vanaga told LTV programme Rīta panorāma that people who do not provide the minister responsible for the sector with accurate information about the situation still work at the ministry.
LIZDA expects minutes of the official meeting from the Prime Minister’s Office in order to have something to base their request for evaluation of IZM workers’ responsibility.
“It would not be acceptable for both the PM and the minister responsible for the sector to be told that the decision to balance the workload of workers in the sector, which was a strike requirement, have been fulfilled,” claims the head of LIZDA.
The trade union hopes the management of IZM will reconsider cooperation and change relations with specific people “that mislead officials about completion of the government’s decisions”.
When asked how many workers of that kind are in IZM, Vanaga said “there is definitely one, but it is also possible there are two of them”.
The application detailing the request to evaluate the ministry’s officials is in the works, said Vanaga, stressing that “there is a serious complaint against the ministry”. The officials in question are involved in two episodes in which the conflict situation had escalated.
This is about high-ranking officials – those responsible for changes and reforms.
Previously it was reported that LIZDA had suspicions that the conflict between the trade union and minister Anda Čakša had escalated “due to the low-quality work done by certain workers of the ministry”.
Vanaga told the media that certain IZM workers may have reported information to the minister “incorrectly”. She did not mention any names, however. The trade union decided to inform the minister about “situations like that”.
