Latvian Minister of Agriculture Didzis Šmits has been provided a permit to access official secrets, as confirmed by the ministry.
Šmits who is currently away, has received a verbal confirmation regarding the provision of access.
All ministers require permits to access official secrets.
Šmits was the last minister without access to official secrets. The review of his application took security services six months to go through.
The Constitution Protection Bureau confirmed to the media that the decision was made to provide the minister with an appropriate permit.
